Fraasille

Fraasille is a genus of extinct land snails, specifically aerial slugs, within the family Milneedidae. It was first discovered in Lesotho, a country in Southern Africa, although the species have also been found in other parts of the region.

The genus Fraasille belongs to the suborder Pulmonata, which includes snails and slugs. Fraasille species were likely aerial or wingless snails, and some estimates suggest they lived during the Paleocene epoch, around 56 million years ago. Their isolation to a particular ecological niche or habitat is notable, as snail species in this region are often polytypic and have wide distributions.

Snails of the genus Fraasille are characterized by their elongated shells and well-developed shells without distinctive coil. The shells themselves have distinct growth lines and fine lamellae, giving them a distinctly constricte appearance. The density and diversity of snail fossils of the genus Fraasille have made it an important clue in the understanding of the pre-quadrum sediments in Lesotho and the broader region. Fraasille snails were small, reaching maximum lengths of several millimeters.

The fauna that they co-exhibited in the same rock beds contain glirid rodents, quadr shady Ungulata sister art mysr, as well as artifacts that indicate a diverse population. It's worth noting that the genus Fraasille might still be relatively constrained by unexplored areas of the Maloti area region now days accessible for research.
