Fototerápiás

Fototerápiás is a Finnish term referring to phototherapy, a medical treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to treat various medical conditions. This therapeutic approach involves exposing the skin or, in some cases, the body to light, often from specialized lamps or devices. The type of light used, its intensity, and the duration of exposure are all carefully controlled based on the condition being treated.

One of the most common applications of phototherapy is in the treatment of neonatal jaundice. Newborns with high bilirubin levels, which can cause yellowing of the skin and eyes, are placed under a phototherapy lamp. The light converts bilirubin into less harmful substances that can be more easily excreted by the baby's body. Another significant use is in dermatology, where phototherapy is employed to manage chronic skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, and vitiligo. Ultraviolet (UV) light, particularly narrowband UVB, is often utilized in these dermatological treatments.

Beyond these applications, phototherapy is also explored and used for seasonal affective disorder (SAD), where exposure to bright light can help regulate mood and sleep patterns. Research continues into other potential uses of phototherapy for a range of conditions, highlighting its versatility as a non-invasive treatment option. The effectiveness and safety of phototherapy are well-established for many of its current uses, though like any medical treatment, potential side effects and contraindications are considered.
