Fotokemiskt is a term that combines the words "foto" (photo) and "kemisk" (chemical), referring to the chemical processes involved in photography. The term is often used to describe the science behind how images are captured and developed on photographic film or digital sensors. Fotokemiskt encompasses various chemical reactions that occur when light interacts with light-sensitive materials, such as silver halide emulsions in traditional film or the photodiodes in digital sensors.

In traditional photography, the process begins with the exposure of light-sensitive silver halide crystals on photographic film. When light hits these crystals, it triggers a chemical reaction that reduces the silver ions to metallic silver, forming a latent image. This image is not visible until it is developed through a series of chemical baths, which amplify the silver deposits and make the image permanent.

In digital photography, the process is different but still involves chemical reactions. Light-sensitive photodiodes in the sensor convert photons into electrical signals, which are then processed by the camera's electronics to create a digital image. While the primary reaction is electronic rather than chemical, the initial capture of light still relies on photochemical processes.
