Fotograafiaanrite is a term that refers to the historical period of photography encompassing its early development and experimentation. This era typically spans from the invention of photography in the late 1830s through the mid-19th century. Key figures during this time included Nicéphore Niépce, Louis Daguerre, and William Henry Fox Talbot, who developed foundational photographic processes.

The earliest photographic techniques, such as the daguerreotype and the calotype, were characterized by long exposure times and complex chemical processes. Daguerreotypes produced unique, detailed positive images on polished metal plates, while calotypes, developed by Talbot, allowed for the creation of paper negatives from which multiple positive prints could be made.
