Forwardspänning

Forwardspänning is a Swedish term that translates to "forward voltage" in English. It refers to the voltage required to establish a significant current flow through a semiconductor device, such as a diode, when it is forward-biased. In a forward-biased state, the voltage applied across the device is in the direction that allows current to flow easily.

For a diode, the forward voltage is often referred to as the turn-on voltage or the knee voltage. Below this voltage, only a very small leakage current flows. Once the forward voltage is reached, the current begins to increase exponentially with further small increases in voltage. The specific value of the forward voltage varies depending on the type of semiconductor material. For silicon diodes, it is typically around 0.7 volts, while for germanium diodes, it is around 0.3 volts. Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have higher forward voltages, which depend on the color of the light they emit, ranging from about 1.5 to 3.5 volts.

Understanding forwardspänning is crucial in electronic circuit design for proper biasing and operation of semiconductor components.
