Fortamet

Fortamet is a brand-name formulation of metformin hydrochloride extended-release tablets used to improve glycemic control in adults and in children 10 years and older with type 2 diabetes, as an adjunct to diet and exercise. It is not indicated for type 1 diabetes or for treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. Fortamet works by reducing hepatic glucose production and by improving insulin sensitivity and peripheral glucose uptake; it does not increase insulin secretion.
