Forrásjegyzék

Forrásjegyzék is a list of sources consulted or cited in a scholarly work, provided at the end of the document. Its purpose is to allow readers to verify claims, locate the consulted materials, and acknowledge the work of others. It is distinct from in-text citations, which reference sources within the main text.

A forrásjegyzék typically contains bibliographic entries arranged in a standardized way. Common elements include the author(s), title of the work, publication data (place of publication, publisher, year), and, for journal articles, the journal name, volume, issue, and page numbers. Online sources usually include the URL and the date of access or a DOI. Titles are often styled in italics for books and journals, while articles use quotation marks. Entries are usually sorted alphabetically by the surname of the first author; if no author is given, they may be organized by title. Some works separate books, articles, and online sources into sections.

In Hungarian academic practice, forrásjegyzék is related to other terms such as használt irodalom and bibliográfia. A forrásjegyzék generally lists sources that were actually cited in the work, whereas használt irodalom may include additional materials consulted but not directly quoted. Bibliography can refer to a broader survey of literature on a topic and may include sources not cited.
