Forhandlingsrunde

Forhandlingsrunde is a term used in Scandinavian languages to describe a series of formal negotiations between two or more parties, most commonly between an employers’ organization and a trade union, with the aim of concluding or renewing a collective agreement. It is a central feature of industrial relations in Norway, Denmark, and other Nordic countries, but the concept is also used in broader political or public-administration contexts.

Typically, a forhandlingsrunde follows a defined agenda where each side presents proposals on wages, working hours, overtime rules, leave, pensions, and other employment conditions. Rounds may be scheduled within a set bargaining cycle or triggered by the expiration of an agreement or a change in circumstances. The process usually involves several rounds of talks, potential involvement of mediators or tripartite bodies, and a timetable with deadlines to keep discussions on track.

Outcomes can include a signed collective agreement, a framework agreement with remaining open items, or, in the event of deadlock, mediation, arbitration, or escalation to industrial action. The term emphasizes the iterative and incremental nature of bargaining, where positions are adjusted, concessions are sought, and compromises are reached.
