Forgangsatriði

Forgangsatriði is Icelandic for a priority item. The term denotes an element within a set of tasks, requests, or data that has been designated to receive attention or resources before others.

In computing, forgangsatriði commonly refers to the highest-priority element in a priority queue or to a task scheduled by a processor. Depending on the system, the item may be executed immediately, preempt other work, or be scheduled according to defined rules.
