Foreau

Foreau is a small town and commune in the fictional country of Northa, located in the River Vale region. It lies along the Foreau River and is surrounded by mixed forests and agricultural land. The municipality covers about 18 square kilometers and had a population of roughly 2,100 in 2022.

Governance is provided by a mayor and a municipal council with 11 members. Foreau is part of the Nord District and participates in regional elections for the provincial assembly. Local services include a primary school, a volunteer fire brigade, and a small cultural center.

The first recorded reference to Foreau appears in a 1173 charter. The etymology is uncertain, with theories pointing to a personal name or a geographic feature. The construction of a parish church in the 13th century anchored the village, and a railway line in the 19th century spurred growth. The 20th century saw population decline followed by stabilization as services and tourism developed.

The economy centers on dairy farming and grain production, complemented by small woodworking and textile crafts. Tourism focuses on the historic church ruins of Foreau Abbey, the surrounding nature reserve, and scenic river valleys. The annual Foreau Harvest Festival features traditional music, markets, and regional foods, including a locally produced cheese known as Foreau cheese.

Foreau maintains a primary school; secondary students typically travel to the regional center. The town is connected by regional roads and is served by a seasonal freight line that supports local commerce.
