Forbrukerkjøpsloven

Forbrukerkjøpsloven, often abbreviated as fkl., is a Norwegian law that governs the purchase of goods by consumers from businesses. It aims to protect consumers in situations where they buy products from professional sellers. The law applies to most purchases of movable property, such as electronics, furniture, clothing, and vehicles, when the buyer is a private individual and the seller is a business.

Key provisions of the forbrukerkjøpsloven include rules about the quality of goods. Products must conform to what has been agreed upon, and they must be suitable for the purpose for which goods of the same kind are ordinarily used. They should also be of a quality that the consumer can reasonably expect based on the product's description, price, and other circumstances.

If a product has a defect, the consumer generally has the right to demand that the defect be remedied. This can include repair or replacement of the item. If these options are not possible or are unsuccessful, the consumer may be entitled to a price reduction or to cancel the purchase. The law also sets out rules for delivery and the transfer of risk.

The forbrukerkjøpsloven is supplemented by other consumer protection legislation, such as the angrepsloven (right of withdrawal) and the markedsføringsloven (marketing control act). It is an important piece of legislation for ensuring fair trade practices and consumer confidence in the Norwegian market.
