Folyamatirányítást, also known as process control, is a discipline that deals with maintaining a desired output or condition of a process. It involves measuring the current state of a process, comparing it to a desired setpoint, and then taking corrective actions to minimize the difference or error. This is a fundamental concept in many fields, including engineering, manufacturing, and economics.

The basic loop of process control includes a sensor to measure the process variable, a controller that compares the measured value to the setpoint and calculates an appropriate output signal, and an actuator that implements the controller's command to influence the process. For instance, in a heating system, a thermostat (sensor and controller) measures the room temperature and signals a furnace (actuator) to turn on or off to maintain a set temperature.

Process control systems can be open-loop, where the control action is independent of the process output, or closed-loop, where the control action depends on the feedback from the process output. Closed-loop systems are generally more robust and accurate as they can compensate for disturbances. The goal of process control is to ensure stability, efficiency, and safety while achieving desired performance objectives. Advanced techniques like PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) control are widely used to achieve precise regulation.
