Followerism

Followerism is a term used to describe the phenomenon of people prioritizing their relationships and interactions with influential individuals, often in a social or online context, over their own personal interests, goals, and values. This behavior can manifest in various ways, such as constantly seeking validation and reassurance from a leader or social media influencer, or abandoning one's own opinions and convictions to avoid conflict or ostracism.

The term "followerism" suggests a type of mass psychology, where individuals become so enamored with a particular figure or ideology that they surrender their critical thinking skills and individual autonomy. This can be seen in the ways that people obsessed with a celebrity or politician will defend their actions at all costs, even when faced with overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
