Fogvatartási

Fogvatartási refers to the legal concept and practice of detention or imprisonment within the Hungarian legal system. It encompasses the period of time an individual is held in custody by state authorities, typically for the purpose of criminal proceedings or as a consequence of a criminal conviction. The term broadly covers pre-trial detention, serving a prison sentence, and other forms of deprivation of liberty.

Hungarian law distinguishes between various forms of fogvatartási. Pre-trial detention, known as "letartóztatás," is a measure imposed before a final judgment, usually when there is a risk of flight, obstruction of justice, or recidivism. This form of detention is subject to strict legal safeguards and judicial oversight to prevent arbitrary deprivation of liberty.

Upon conviction, individuals are sentenced to serve a prison term, which is also a form of fogvatartási.
