Fogadhat

Fogadhat is a Hungarian verb form derived from the verb fogad (to receive or to welcome/host) by adding the potential suffix -hat/-het. It expresses possibility or permission, roughly translating to "can" or "may" in English. The form belongs to the Hungarian potential mood, a modal layer used to indicate that an action is possible rather than certain. The -hat/-het suffix adheres to vowel harmony: -hat is used after back vowels, -het after front vowels. For example, fogad becomes fogadhat, and kap becomes kaphat.

In actual use, fogadhat can be combined with various subjects and in different contexts to discuss possible events, such as hosting guests or accepting offers. For instance, a sentence like "A közösségi központ fogadhat vendégeket" translates as "The community center may host guests." Another example: "Ő fogadhat vendéget" means "He may receive a guest." The form can appear with negation, as in "Nem fogadhat el," meaning "he may not accept," depending on the sentence and context.
