Flyvefiskenflåden

The Flyvefisken-class patrol vessel is a class of small, multi-purpose naval vessels operated by the Royal Danish Navy. Designated for coastal surveillance, mine clearance, and general patrol duties, these ships are characterized by their modular design, allowing for rapid reconfiguration of their armament and sensor packages. The class was designed by the Danish company Ternary, and construction took place at the Svendborg Shipyard.

A total of 14 vessels were built between 1989 and 1996. The lead ship, HDMS Flyvefisken, was commissioned in 1992. The modularity of the Flyvefisken class is a key feature, enabling the vessels to be quickly adapted for different missions. This is achieved through standardized "mission containers" that can be installed or removed as needed, facilitating roles such as mine hunting, anti-submarine warfare, and patrol.

These patrol vessels are powered by diesel engines and have a relatively shallow draft, making them suitable for operating in coastal waters. Their relatively small size and advanced sensor systems contribute to their effectiveness in their intended roles. The Royal Danish Navy has utilized the Flyvefisken class extensively since their introduction, and they have proven to be versatile assets within the fleet. Some vessels have since been sold to other navies, including Lithuania and Portugal, demonstrating their perceived value and adaptability.
