Flyvefisken

Flyvefisken is a class of fast patrol vessels operated by the Royal Danish Navy. The class comprises nine vessels, all of which were built by the Danish company Aalborg Vaerft and commissioned between 1993 and 1996. The Flyvefisken class is characterized by its multi-role capabilities, designed to perform a variety of tasks including combat, patrol, mine countermeasures, and support operations.

The design of the Flyvefisken class features a catamaran hull, which provides excellent stability and speed. This design allows the vessels to operate effectively in rough seas and at high speeds. Their primary armament typically includes a 76mm gun, missile systems, and a 20mm cannon. For mine countermeasures, specific variants are equipped with advanced sonar and mine disposal systems. The vessels are also equipped with advanced navigation and communication equipment.

The Flyvefisken class has been instrumental in Danish maritime security and has participated in numerous international operations and exercises. Over the years, the vessels have undergone several upgrades to maintain their operational effectiveness and adapt to evolving threats. While the class has served for several decades, plans for their eventual replacement are in place, reflecting the ongoing modernization efforts within naval forces worldwide. The class name "Flyvefisken" translates to "Flying Fish" in Danish.
