Flytpunktvarianter refer to different ways floating-point numbers are represented and handled by computer systems. The most common standard is IEEE 754, which defines formats like single-precision (32-bit) and double-precision (64-bit). These variants differ in the number of bits allocated to the sign, exponent, and significand (mantissa).

Single-precision uses 1 bit for the sign, 8 bits for the exponent, and 23 bits for the significand. Double-precision, on the other hand, uses 1 bit for the sign, 11 bits for the exponent, and 52 bits for the significand. This larger allocation in double-precision allows for a wider range of representable numbers and greater precision compared to single-precision.
