Fluororubberen

Fluororubber is a class of synthetic rubbers that contain fluorine atoms in their polymer backbone. These materials are known for their exceptional resistance to heat, chemicals, and oil. The presence of fluorine atoms imparts a high degree of chemical inertness and thermal stability. Common types of fluororubber include fluoroelastomers (FKM), perfluoroelastomers (FFKM), and fluorosilicone rubber (FVMQ).

Fluoroelastomers are widely used in demanding applications such as automotive seals and O-rings, aerospace components, and chemical processing equipment due to their excellent resistance to fuels, lubricants, and high temperatures. Perfluoroelastomers offer even greater chemical and thermal resistance, making them suitable for the most extreme environments, including those found in the semiconductor and oil and gas industries. Fluorosilicone rubber combines the low-temperature flexibility of silicone rubber with the chemical resistance of fluorocarbons, finding use in specialized seals and gaskets.

The synthesis of fluororubber typically involves polymerization of fluorinated monomers. The specific monomers and polymerization process influence the final properties of the rubber. While these materials offer superior performance, their cost is generally higher than that of conventional rubbers. Despite the cost, their durability and reliability in harsh conditions make them indispensable in many critical industrial applications.
