The script is read left to right on modern artefacts, though ancient inscriptions sometimes appear in vertical or boustrophedon styles. The basic inventory includes about a dozen river-related logograms plus several phonetic signs, allowing a range of phrases to be expressed through compounding and affixation.

In-world use of flomsletter spans official proclamations, religious texts, and merchant ledgers. It supports ligatures and sign combinations that express temporal relations and conditional statements, enabling relatively compact documentation of flood warnings and civic decrees.
