Flerstegspumpning

Flerstegspumpning, often translated as multistage pumping, refers to a technique used to increase the pressure or flow rate of a fluid by using multiple pumps in series. In this configuration, the discharge from one pump is fed into the suction of the next pump in line. Each pump in the series adds to the overall pressure head or flow rate of the system. This is a common method when a single pump cannot achieve the desired performance due to limitations in motor size, pump casing design, or efficiency.

The primary advantage of multistage pumping is its ability to generate very high pressures. As the fluid passes through each stage, its pressure is incrementally increased. This is particularly useful in applications such as high-pressure water jetting, boiler feed systems, and oil and gas extraction where significant pressure is required. Alternatively, multiple pumps can be arranged in parallel to increase the overall flow rate while maintaining a similar pressure, although the term "fler stegs pumpning" typically implies series operation for pressure enhancement.

The design of a multistage pump often involves housing multiple impellers within a single casing. Each impeller is designed to increase the fluid pressure. The fluid enters the first impeller, is pressurized, then directed to the second impeller, and so on, until it reaches the final discharge. This arrangement is more compact and efficient than using multiple individual pumps connected by piping, especially for achieving high pressures.
