Finecutting

Finecutting refers to a precise machining process used to achieve very smooth surface finishes and tight dimensional tolerances. It is often the final stage in a manufacturing sequence, employed after roughing or semi-finishing operations have removed the bulk of the material. The key characteristic of finecutting is the use of very small depths of cut and fine feed rates, which minimize material deformation and tool marks. This process is crucial in industries where high accuracy and surface quality are paramount, such as aerospace, medical device manufacturing, and optics.

The tools used in finecutting are typically made from hard materials like diamond, cubic boron nitride (CBN), or specialized carbides.
