Finantspiiramised refers to financial pyramids, also known as Ponzi schemes or pyramid schemes, which are fraudulent investment operations. These schemes typically promise high returns with little or no risk to investors. The core mechanism involves paying returns to earlier investors with money from newer investors, rather than from legitimate profits generated by any business activity.

The perpetrators of these schemes create an illusion of success by recruiting new members and collecting their investments. A portion of this new money is then used to pay off existing investors, creating a sense of legitimacy and encouraging them to reinvest or recruit more people. However, the scheme is unsustainable because it relies on a constant influx of new money to survive. Eventually, the number of new investors cannot keep up with the payouts required for earlier investors, leading to the collapse of the pyramid.

When a pyramid scheme collapses, most investors lose their money. The individuals at the top of the pyramid, who are the organizers, usually profit significantly before the scheme fails. Authorities worldwide actively combat these fraudulent activities due to their detrimental impact on individuals and the economy. Recognizing the signs, such as unusually high returns, pressure to recruit others, and lack of transparency, is crucial for avoiding such schemes.
