Filmpostproduction refers to the final stages of filmmaking that occur after principal photography has been completed. This extensive process involves refining and assembling the raw footage into a cohesive and polished final product. It is a critical phase that transforms hours of recorded material into a narrative film, documentary, or any other cinematic work.

Key stages within postproduction include editing, where individual shots are selected, trimmed, and arranged to create scenes and sequences, and sound design. Sound design encompasses a wide range of audio elements such as dialogue editing, the addition of sound effects, Foley (creating everyday sounds), and the composition or selection of a musical score. Color grading is another vital component, where the color and tone of the film are adjusted to enhance mood, consistency, and visual appeal. Visual effects (VFX) are also often integrated during postproduction, involving the creation or manipulation of imagery that cannot be captured practically during filming, such as CGI creatures or elaborate environmental alterations. Finally, the film undergoes mixing, where all audio elements are balanced and synchronized, and then mastering, which involves creating the final exportable versions of the film for various distribution formats. Postproduction requires a collaborative effort from a team of specialists, including editors, sound engineers, colorists, and VFX artists.
