Filmi

Filmi is an adjective used in Hindi-Urdu and Indian English to describe things related to cinema or the film industry. The term originates from the English word film, extended with the suffix -i to form filmi, meaning film-related or cinematic. It is commonly used in India to characterize films, songs, fashion, dialogue, and other elements associated with cinema.

In journalism and popular discourse, filmi is often associated with a melodramatic, larger-than-life sensibility that is prominent in mainstream Bollywood cinema, including star-centric storytelling, romance, and song-and-dance numbers. Filmi songs refer to music composed for films, while filmi scenes describe typical cinematic sequences.

Filmi style is sometimes contrasted with more understated or art-house approaches, though the boundaries with parallel cinema and other regional film traditions can blur.
