Fieldsfor

Fieldsfor is a form helper in Ruby on Rails, usually written as fields_for. It generates form fields for a model’s nested association, enabling users to create or edit related records within a single form. By yielding a nested form builder to a block, fields_for allows you to construct inputs for related objects without leaving the parent form. It integrates with Rails’ nested attributes support and works with accepts_nested_attributes_for in the model to permit mass-assignment of child records. The canonical spelling in Rails is fields_for; "fieldsfor" is a common misspelling or informal reference.

Usage and behavior: Within a form_for block for a parent object, you call f.fields_for :association do |child_form| ... end. Inside the block, you render inputs using child_form’s helpers, such as child_form.text_field, child_form.check_box, and so on. To display a new nested object in the form, you typically build it beforehand in the controller (for example, @project.tasks.build) so fields_for has a record to render. A common pattern includes a destroy flag to allow removing a nested item.

Example: In a form for @project with has_many :tasks and accepts_nested_attributes_for :tasks, you might have: <%= form_for @project do |f| %> <%= f.fields_for :tasks do |t| %> <%= t.text_field :name %> <%= t.check_box :_destroy %> <% end %> <% end %>.

Limitations and considerations: Requires nested attributes to be configured in the model, and developers should manage strong parameters accordingly. Performance and complexity can increase with many nested records, so use fields_for judiciously.
