Fiebermessungen, or fever measurements, are a common medical practice used to determine an individual's body temperature. A normal body temperature typically ranges between 36.5 and 37.5 degrees Celsius (97.7 and 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit), though slight variations can occur. When body temperature rises above this normal range, it is generally considered a fever, which can be an indicator of infection or other medical conditions.

Various methods and devices are employed for fevermessungen. Digital thermometers are widely used, offering quick and accurate readings. They can be used orally, rectally, or under the armpit. Ear thermometers, which measure infrared heat from the eardrum, provide rapid results. Forehead thermometers, also utilizing infrared technology, offer a non-contact option. Historically, mercury thermometers were common but are now largely replaced due to safety concerns.

The location of the measurement can influence the reading. Rectal temperatures are generally considered the most accurate, especially in infants and young children. Oral temperatures are convenient but can be affected by recent food or drink consumption. Axillary (armpit) temperatures tend to be lower than oral or rectal readings. Understanding these differences is important for accurate interpretation of fevermessungen. When a fever is detected, further medical evaluation may be necessary to identify the underlying cause and appropriate treatment.
