Fidechess

Fidechess refers to chess played under the rules and regulations of the Fédération Internationale des Échecs, commonly known as FIDE. FIDE is the international governing body of the sport of chess and is responsible for establishing and maintaining the official rules of chess that are used in most international competitions, including the World Chess Championship. These rules cover aspects such as piece movement, legal moves, checkmate, stalemate, pawn promotion, castling, and touch-move principles.

When a chess tournament or match is designated as "Fidechess," it signifies that it adheres strictly to the FIDE Laws of Chess. This ensures a standardized and universally accepted framework for competitive play. FIDE also oversees the rating system, awarding Elo ratings to players based on their performance in FIDE-rated events. Players who participate in Fidechess events can earn or lose Elo points, which are a measure of their playing strength. The organization also sanctions titles, such as Grandmaster (GM) and International Master (IM), which are awarded to players who achieve specific performance and rating standards in FIDE-sanctioned tournaments. Therefore, Fidechess essentially represents chess played at an official, regulated, and internationally recognized level.
