Ferromagneettisilla

Ferromagneettisilla is a Finnish term that describes a group of elements that exhibit ferromagnetic properties at standard conditions. In everyday experience, the most well-known ferromagnetic material is iron, but the group includes several other elements, such as nickel, cobalt, and their alloys.

These elements are characterized by their ability to align their atomic magnetic moments, resulting in a global magnetic moment that is oriented in a specific direction. At standard conditions, this alignment leads to a permanent magnetic field. In ferromagnetic materials, the magnetic moments are not random, but are instead aligned by the exchange interaction between neighboring atoms.

Ferromagnetism is a result of the collective behavior of the electrons in the atom lattice, rather than the individual magnetic moments of the electrons. The Curie temperature is an important property that describes the temperature at which ferromagnetic behavior disappears as the thermal motion of the atoms overcomes the exchange interaction that aligns the magnetic moments. Adjacent to the ferromagnets, there are also ferrimagnet, which are materials with materials that exhibit both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic order.

The ferromagnetic family is of great interest for many potential uses in engineering and technology. Applications of ferromagnetic materials include magnetic storage, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) devices, magnetic levitation, and various other sensors. Their use is also seen in technological systems such as generators, motors, and transformers.
