Ferrite core is a type of magnetic core made from ferrite, a ceramic material composed of iron oxides mixed with other metallic elements. Ferrites are ferromagnetic materials that exhibit magnetic properties. The primary advantage of ferrite cores is their high electrical resistivity, which significantly reduces eddy currents at high frequencies. This makes them ideal for use in applications where efficient energy transfer is required, especially at radio frequencies (RF).

Ferrite cores are commonly found in inductors and transformers. In inductors, they increase the inductance of a coil by providing a path for magnetic flux. In transformers, they are used to couple electrical energy between two or more circuits through magnetic induction. The specific composition of the ferrite material determines its magnetic properties, such as permeability and saturation flux density, which are crucial for its performance in a given application. Different types of ferrites are designed for various frequency ranges and operating conditions. For instance, manganese-zinc ferrites are often used in power applications at lower frequencies, while nickel-zinc ferrites are preferred for higher frequencies. They are also utilized in noise suppression components like beads and chokes.
