Fernfeld

Fernfeld is a fictional municipality in the rural region of Fernwald, Veridia. The settlement is described as an agricultural community bordered by deciduous forests and small streams. The name derives from ferns common in the fields.

Fernfeld covers about 42 square kilometers and has an estimated population of 3,800 (2023). The terrain is gently rolling with hedgerows, creeks, and woodland patches. The climate is temperate, with mild summers and cool winters.

Historical mentions date to 1347, when it appeared in a charter as Fernevelt. The manor and parish center developed through the late medieval period. The arrival of the Veridian Central Railway in 1882 spurred growth. Municipal boundaries were redefined in the 1970s reforms.

Fernfeld is governed by a mayor and a council of eight members. It is part of the Veridian rural district and participates in regional elections. The local economy is based on agriculture, small-scale manufacturing, and forestry. Tourism is modest and tied to landscape and historic sites.

Landmarks include a 15th-century Fernfeld Church and Fernfeld Manor. The Fernfeld Arboretum preserves ferns and native woodland species. An annual Fern Festival is held each spring. Education consists of one primary school; secondary schooling is in nearby towns. Fernfeld is served by a regional rail stop on the Verdian Central Line and by regional roads.
