Fenotyyppeihin, Finnish for “in phenotypes,” refers to characteristics observable in an organism that result from the interaction of its genotype with environmental factors. A phenotype encompasses morphological, physiological, biochemical, and behavioral traits. It is the expression of genes combined with developmental processes and external influences. Phenotypic variation arises when different allelic combinations produce distinct traits, and when the same genotype yields different phenotypes across diverse environments—a concept known as phenotypic plasticity.

In classical genetics, the study of fenotyyppeihin helped uncover Mendelian inheritance patterns.
