Femtolitros
Femtolitros is a unit of volume equal to 10^-15 liters. The prefix "femto" comes from the Danish word "femten" meaning "fifteen." This unit is extremely small, representing a quadrillionth of a liter. To put it into perspective, a femtoliter is equivalent to one cubic micrometer (1 µm³). The femtoliter is not a commonly used unit in everyday contexts due to its minuscule size. Its primary applications are found in specialized scientific fields, particularly in microfluidics and nanotechnology, where researchers work with incredibly small quantities of liquids. For example, in lab-on-a-chip devices, where minuscule volumes of biological samples or chemical reagents are manipulated, femtoliter-scale volumes may be relevant for analysis or reaction. The femtoliter is a derived unit within the International System of Units (SI), stemming from the base unit of volume, the liter, and the SI prefix femto.
