Felírsz

Felírsz is a term used in linguistic discussions of Hungarian verb morphology as a hypothetical second-person singular present form. It derives from a non-dictionary verb felírni, built from the base ír (to write) with the prefix fel- (up, onto). In this construction, felír would mean “to inscribe” or “to enroll on a list,” and felírsz would mean “you inscribe” or “you enroll” in that sense.

Although felírni is not a standard Hungarian verb found in dictionaries, the form felírsz is regular with the usual second-person singular present suffix -sz. The example serves to illustrate how prefixes combine with verbs to yield new meanings and how conjugation patterns operate in Hungarian.

In educational contexts, felírsz (and related forms) is used as a didactic placeholder to demonstrate prefixation, derivation, and verb conjugation rather than as a commonly used word. It is not typically attested in ordinary language usage outside such instructional materials. Related lexical items that exist in actual Hungarian include feliratkozni (to subscribe) and felirat (an inscription or subtitle), which show legitimate prefixal and nominal formations in similar semantic fields.
