Fehéred

Fehéred is a contemporary neologism used in Hungarian-language discussions of color and perception to describe a state or perception of near-white coloration. It is derived from the base word fehér (white) with a productive suffix that signals a process or result, though it is not part of official color-science terminology.

Etymology and scope: The term is not widely codified in standards or glossaries. It appears primarily in design writing, photography criticism, and informal color discourse to indicate a level of whiteness higher than standard white but below pure white in intuitive terms. It is sometimes used to explain perceptual white-out situations caused by lighting, exposure, or material properties that wash out saturation and hue.

In practice: Applications include textile finishing, where fabrics can appear fehéred under certain lighting; photography and digital imaging where white balance, exposure, and dynamic range can push colors toward fehéred; and art criticism, where fehéred is invoked to describe minimalism, purity, or sterility in visual works.
