Faszerowanych

Faszerowanych is the Polish adjective meaning stuffed. In culinary usage it describes foods in which a hollow or suitable receptacle, such as a pepper, cabbage leaf, tomato, mushroom, or potato, is filled with a mixture (farsz) and then cooked. The form faszerowanych is the past participle used in phrases like faszerowanych paprykach, faszerowanych gołąbkach, or faszerowanych ziemniakach.

The farsz, or stuffing, typically combines a base such as ground meat with rice, barley, or other grains, as well as onions, eggs, and herbs. Regional and dietary variations yield vegetarian fillings using mushrooms, cheese, lentils, or finely chopped vegetables. The stuffing is seasoned to taste and then placed inside the prepared shell or container before cooking.

Common dishes described as faszerowanych include faszerowane papryki (stuffed peppers), faszerowane ziemniaki (stuffed potatoes), faszerowane pieczarki (stuffed mushrooms), and faszerowane gołąbki or gołąbki as a general form of stuffed cabbage leaves. The preparation typically involves softening or removing the inner parts of the chosen vessel, filling it with the farsz, and cooking by baking, simmering in sauce, or steaming. Tomato or mushroom-based sauces are frequently served to accompany these dishes.
