Famalicão

Vila Nova de Famalicão, commonly known as Famalicão, is a Portuguese municipality located in the Braga District, in the north of Portugal. It is situated about 15 kilometers southwest of the city of Braga and 30 kilometers northeast of Porto. The municipality covers an area of 201.5 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 131,000 inhabitants.

The region has a history dating back to Roman times, with evidence of settlements and agricultural activity. The modern development of Famalicão began in the 19th century with the establishment of its railway station and the growth of its textile industry. This industrialization played a significant role in the town's economic and demographic expansion.

Famalicão is known for its diverse economy, which includes textiles, footwear, agriculture, and services. It is also a cultural center, hosting several festivals, museums, and theaters.
