Faber-Castell is a German multinational manufacturer of writing instruments and art supplies. It is one of the world’s oldest and largest pencil producers. The company traces its origins to 1761, when Kaspar Faber established a pencil workshop in Stein near Nuremberg, in what is today Bavaria. Through the 18th and 19th centuries the business expanded under successive generations. In 1900, the Faber and Castell families formed the name Faber-Castell, which has remained in use since. The group is privately owned by the Faber-Castell family and operates production facilities and subsidiaries worldwide, with its headquarters in Stein.
