Faber-Castell is a German multinational manufacturer of writing instruments and art supplies. It is one of the world’s oldest and largest pencil producers. The company traces its origins to 1761, when Kaspar Faber established a pencil workshop in Stein near Nuremberg, in what is today Bavaria. Through the 18th and 19th centuries the business expanded under successive generations. In 1900, the Faber and Castell families formed the name Faber-Castell, which has remained in use since. The group is privately owned by the Faber-Castell family and operates production facilities and subsidiaries worldwide, with its headquarters in Stein.

Faber-Castell manufactures a wide range of products for writing, drawing and art. Its pencil lines include Castell 9000 graphite pencils and Polychromos colored pencils, as well as mechanical pencils and erasers. In addition to pencils, the company produces ballpoint and gel pens, markers and ink pens, and art materials such as watercolor products under the Albrecht Dürer line. The luxury Graf von Faber-Castell collection targets the premium market. The company emphasizes durability, precision and responsible wood sourcing, with certifications such as FSC and PEFC.

Today Faber-Castell operates globally, with manufacturing in Germany and elsewhere and distribution in more than 60 countries. It is known for continuous product development across educational, professional and artistic segments and maintains a reputation for quality and longevity.
