Faasisidonnaiset refers to a phenomenon in physics where the behavior or properties of a system change abruptly at a specific point, often referred to as a phase transition. This concept is most commonly observed in thermodynamics, where matter can transition between different states, such as solid, liquid, and gas, by altering temperature or pressure. For example, water undergoes a phase transition when it freezes into ice or boils into steam. These transitions are characterized by a sudden change in macroscopic properties like density, heat capacity, or viscosity, even though the underlying microscopic interactions might not change drastically.

Beyond the familiar states of matter, phase transitions occur in various other physical systems. In condensed matter physics, superconductivity and magnetism are examples of phase transitions. Superconductors lose all electrical resistance below a critical temperature, and magnetic materials develop spontaneous magnetization at their Curie temperature. These transitions can be classified by their order, with first-order transitions involving latent heat and discontinuities in thermodynamic potentials, and second-order transitions exhibiting continuous changes but discontinuities in derivatives of these potentials.
