FTTH, FTTC, and FTTB are all terms that describe different types of fiber optic broadband internet connections. These abbreviations indicate how close the fiber optic cable comes to a user's premises.

FTTH stands for Fiber to the Home. In this configuration, the fiber optic cable runs directly from the internet service provider's central office all the way to the individual subscriber's home or business. This offers the highest speeds and lowest latency because there is no copper wiring involved beyond the user's premises.

FTTC stands for Fiber to the Curb or Fiber to the Cabinet. With FTTC, the fiber optic cable runs from the provider's central office to a street cabinet or junction box located near a group of homes. From this cabinet, traditional copper telephone lines are used to connect to each individual home. While faster than DSL over copper alone, speeds can be affected by the length and quality of the remaining copper line.

FTTB stands for Fiber to the Building. In this setup, the fiber optic cable extends to the basement or main entry point of an apartment building or office block. From there, internal wiring, which can be Ethernet or sometimes copper, is used to distribute the connection to individual units or offices. Similar to FTTC, the final leg of the connection can influence the ultimate speed experienced by the end-user.

Each of these deployment strategies offers varying levels of performance, with FTTH generally providing the best internet experience. The choice of deployment depends on factors such as cost of infrastructure rollout, geographical density, and desired service levels.
