FLOT1, also known as Fatty acid transport protein 1, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the FLOT1 gene. This gene is located on chromosome 17q21.3. FLOT1 is a member of the solute carrier family 27 (SLC27A), which is involved in the transport of long-chain fatty acids across cellular membranes. The protein is primarily expressed in the liver, where it plays a crucial role in the transport of fatty acids into mitochondria for beta-oxidation, a process that generates energy.
