FINWAIT2

FINWAIT2 is a state in the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) that represents the second phase of the TCP connection termination process. This state is entered by a TCP endpoint after it has sent a FIN (finish) packet to the other endpoint, indicating that it has finished sending data. The FINWAIT2 state is characterized by the following conditions:

The endpoint has sent a FIN packet to the other endpoint.

The endpoint has received an acknowledgment (ACK) for the FIN packet.

The endpoint is waiting for a FIN packet from the other endpoint.

In the FINWAIT2 state, the TCP endpoint is still waiting for the other endpoint to close its connection. Once the FIN packet is received from the other endpoint, the TCP endpoint will send an ACK and then enter the TIMEWAIT state. The FINWAIT2 state is a transient state and is typically short-lived. It is important to note that the FINWAIT2 state is not an error state, but rather a normal part of the TCP connection termination process. However, if the TCP endpoint remains in the FINWAIT2 state for an extended period of time, it may indicate a problem with the other endpoint or the network. In such cases, the TCP endpoint may choose to abort the connection and enter the CLOSED state.
