FC1

FC1 most commonly refers to the FC-1 Xiaolong, a joint China–Pakistan light multirole fighter aircraft. In China the program is marketed as FC-1 Xiaolong, while internationally the aircraft is widely known as the JF-17 Thunder. The project was developed by Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group in collaboration with Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, beginning in the late 1990s to provide an affordable, modern fighter for developing air forces and potential export customers.

The FC-1/JF-17 is a single-engine, multirole aircraft designed for both air superiority and ground-attack missions. It was intended to deliver cost-efficient performance with contemporary avionics and weapons integration, suitable for upgrading over time to extend its useful life. The design emphasizes ease of maintenance and affordability relative to heavier fourth-generation fighters, while offering capabilities appropriate for its operating requirements.

Development milestones include a first flight in 2003 and entry into service with the Pakistan Air Force in 2007. Production has continued with ongoing upgrades and variants explored to meet evolving operator needs. The Pakistan Air Force remains the primary operator, with public reporting of export interest from other countries and firms evaluating further sales and enhancements.

In other contexts, FC1 can be used as an acronym or designation in unrelated industries or projects, but the FC-1 Xiaolong/JF-17 Thunder is the primary aviation reference associated with the FC1 designation.
