Extrusionsmultiplikators are a parameter used in extrusion-based additive manufacturing, particularly in FDM/FFF 3D printing, to scale the amount of filament extruded per unit length of nozzle movement. The multiplier is applied by the slicer or printer firmware as a dimensionless factor that adjusts the planned extrusion volume, effectively influencing the flow of material.

In practice, the value is typically near 1.0. Values above 1.0 increase the amount of material deposited, while values below 1.0 reduce it. In many slicers this setting is presented as a percentage (for example, 100% corresponds to 1.0). The extrusion multiplier works alongside other calibration parameters, such as filament diameter and nozzle size, to achieve accurate dimensions and layer bonding.

The choice of multiplier affects print quality and dimensional accuracy. Over-extrusion (multiplier too high) can cause blobbing, oozing, and excessive layer width, while under-extrusion (multiplier too low) can produce gaps, weak layer adhesion, and reduced wall thickness. The optimal value depends on filament brand and batch, printer mechanics, nozzle condition, and environmental factors like temperature.

Calibration typically involves printing simple test objects, such as single-wall or calibration cubes, measuring wall thickness and line width, and iteratively adjusting the extrusion multiplier until the printed dimensions match the target. It is common to recheck after changing filament, nozzle, or temperature settings. The extrusion multiplier is distinct from physical extrusion calibration (E-steps per millimeter) but both contribute to overall material flow accuracy.
