Variations include standard operating procedures, clinical trial protocols, and computational experiment plans. Best practices emphasize clear, precise language; consistent units and nomenclature; preregistration where appropriate; version control; thorough documentation of deviations; and open sharing of methods and data, within privacy and safety constraints.
