Exemptionalism

Exemptionalism is a term used to describe the belief that a particular nation, group, or individual is unique and therefore exempt from the usual rules, laws, or expectations that apply to others. This concept often carries a sense of superiority or special status, suggesting that the entity in question operates on a different plane or is subject to a higher set of principles.

The idea of exemptionalism can manifest in various contexts. In international relations, it might refer to a nation believing it is not bound by international treaties or norms due to its unique historical role or perceived moral standing. Domestically, it can appear in discussions about powerful individuals or corporations who seem to evade accountability for actions that would lead to consequences for ordinary citizens.
