Evolènes

Evolènes is a municipality located in the Canton of Valais in Switzerland. It is situated in the Evolène District, nestled within the Val d'Hérens, a valley known for its traditional alpine character and striking mountain landscapes. The village of Evolènes itself is the administrative center of the district and is at an elevation of approximately 1,370 meters (4,495 feet) above sea level.

The municipality is renowned for its well-preserved traditional architecture, characterized by wooden houses and barns. Evolènes has also gained recognition for its cultural heritage, particularly its traditional costumes and local customs. The "Carnaval d'Evolène" is a notable event, where inhabitants don elaborate masks and costumes, known as "Emplâillés" and "Bouts-de-Bon," and participate in ancient rituals.
