Evaporiteesiintymillä refers to geological deposits formed by the evaporation of water bodies, typically in arid or semi-arid climates. These deposits are rich in minerals that were dissolved in the original water. Common evaporite minerals include halite (rock salt), gypsum, and anhydrite.

The formation process begins with the concentration of dissolved salts in a body of water, such as a lake or a shallow sea. As water evaporates, the concentration of these salts increases. When the water becomes supersaturated, the dissolved minerals begin to crystallize and precipitate out of the solution, accumulating on the bottom or edges of the water body. Over geological timescales, repeated cycles of evaporation and deposition can lead to the formation of thick layers of evaporite minerals.

Evaporite deposits are economically significant. Halite is mined for use as a food additive, in de-icing roads, and in the chemical industry. Gypsum is a primary component of plaster and drywall. Anhydrite can be used in cement production and as a soil conditioner.

These deposits also provide valuable insights into past environmental conditions. The types of minerals present, their isotopic composition, and the sedimentary structures within the evaporite layers can reveal information about the climate, water chemistry, and geological history of a region. Evaporite basins are also known to act as seals, trapping hydrocarbons and forming important petroleum reservoirs.
