This epithet is most famously associated with the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. The icon of the Panagia Evangelistria, depicting the Annunciation, is a revered image in Orthodox tradition, symbolizing the moment Mary received the news from the Angel Gabriel that she would conceive Jesus.
