It refers to the major Eurasian Plate and nearby microplates and blocks whose motions and interactions help shape the tectonics of the region. Because plate boundaries are complex and definitions vary, the exact roster of components is not universally fixed; some authors group the Eurasian Plate with microplates such as the Amurian Plate, North China Plate, and Okhotsk Plate, while the Indian and Arabian plates are typically treated as separate entities in formal classifications.

In this framework, the Eurasian region exhibits a mix of subduction, collision, and transform boundaries. Subduction zones mark the margins to the east and west, while intracontinental faulting and transcurrent faults accommodate internal deformation. Major orogenic belts—most notably the uplift processes that created the Himalayas and the Tibetan Plateau—reflect long-term convergence with neighboring plates. East Asia shows complex interactions among the Eurasian, Amurian, and Okhotsk microplates, whereas western Eurasia involves interactions at the convergent and transform margins tied to the broader collision dynamics with surrounding plates.
